Cosmetics Tier List

The Steam page tells you to buy a bunch of hats. This list takes that instruction seriously and still refuses to pretend a sock is a promotion strategy. Functional toys live on the upgrade ranking. How downtime works lives on Worm-Life Balance. If you have not survived login, go to Getting Started and come back with a bonus.

These ranks are vibe plus screenshot power plus whether the item gets in the way of a key. Launch-week catalog is a mix of demo shop footage, official shorts, and event notes. Names can shift. If a patch adds a legendary fedora, it will land here after Updates says so.

S — the bit that makes the trailer

Sock hat. Demo shoppers lost their minds because it is a sock on a worm. Wear it on the webcam at your own legal risk. For screenshots it is perfect. For typing it is neutral. That is the cosmetic dream: no downside, all comedy.

Caterpillar skin. Reads as “I am not even the right animal.” High because it is a full-body joke, not a tiny hat you cannot see on Deck.

A — drip that still looks like work

Tiny tie energy (necktie / office jewelry). If the shop sells office-formal pieces, they win on theme. You are a junior analyst. Dress like a threat.

Studded choker. A Next Fest comment caught it as a new cosmetic. Punk office worm is a strong look. Ranked A until it clips through a keycap and becomes a physics bug. If it clips, it drops.

Smartphone cosmetics. Official Next Fest notes bundled smartphone dressing with the demo update. Good because the phone is a real prop you already bounce on during tasks. A dressed phone shows up in clips.

B — fun, sometimes loud

Ox-cord skin. Full-body, less readable than caterpillar at a distance, still a buy if you like weird textures.

Custom keycaps. Half cosmetic, half terrain. If they help footing, they were secretly an upgrade. If they are slick, they are a trap. Default B. Move them after you walk on them.

Event colorways. Anything tied to a showcase or launch week. Buy if you like the date stamp. They will not type faster.

C — only if the bonus is burning

Generic hats that hide the head. Your head is the typing tool. If a hat makes the silhouette fatter and you start missing keys, take it off. Comedy is not worth a failed sheet during review week. See How to Get Promoted.

Matching sets you buy instead of a mouse. The set is fine. The timing is not. Go back to upgrades.

D — clutter that pretends to be drip

Anything you wear onto the worm hole course and then blame. The portal does not grade fashion. Hard mode does not care.

Webcam-only outfits. If you never point the camera at yourself, nobody sees it. Buy a sock instead.

Rules of purchase

  1. One cosmetic per cleared board, until S upgrades are owned.
  2. Take it off if you miss keys you used to hit.
  3. Do not rank cosmetics against interns. Interns are people-shaped upgrades, not hats.
  4. Screenshot, then clock back in.

Sibling reminder: if a shop row changes how you move or see, it belongs on upgrades even if it looks cute. If it only changes how you look, it stays here. That split is the whole hub.

Official art and store capsules are on Links. If you want a second opinion, watch any long playthrough — every creator buys the sock and then remembers the spreadsheet.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do cosmetics have stats?

Not in any official listing we will invent. If a hat changes collisions, treat that as a bug or a terrain change, not a hidden DPS table.

What is the best hat?

The sock, for comedy. Anything that does not hide the head, for work.

Should I buy cosmetics before upgrades?

Only if you already accepted you are not getting promoted today.

Where is the intern?

On the upgrade list. They are a desk actor, not an outfit.
